Seismic time/depth images are obtained through extensive
computer processing of many thousands of shot records (like those shown on
the right):
nTime shift (“statics”)
corrections;
nDeconvolution (removal of reverberations);
nFrequency, velocity, and
coherency filtering;
nSuppression of
non-reflection events;
nVelocity analysis;
nRemoval of the effects of
source-receiver offsets (“NMO correction”);
nSummation (“stacking”) for
noise suppression;
nMigration (placement the
events at their correct positions in depth).
