The AVO method

The amplitude versus offset (AVO) method was originally developed in the early 1980’s by Bill Ostrander at Chevron.
AVO is a huge subject that I can only introduce to you today.
A large part of AVO involves a qualitative analysis of the least-squares fit to the amplitude changes with offset.
Quantitative analysis is based on the Aki and Richards (1981) linearized approximation to the Zoeppritz equations.
I will discuss how we can use a modified form of the Aki-Richards’ equation for inversion.
