Known IGeoS installation issues

This software only compiles with Qt3 libraries

Unfortunately, Trolltech has changed names of various classes in Qt4. We have obtained a Qt4 development license and will start working on the conversion soon....

Compilation of some tools fails

Some tools in the distribution are experimental or in development. Their compilation and tests may fail, However, this should not  affect the functionality of other tools.

Missing C++ or Fortran libraries reported during building

This is often reported as a "missing _c_abs symbol."

The most common problem during installation is that C++ or Fortran libraries are often stored at non-standard locations.  In such a case, the program  $SIABIN/sia_launch_job may report missing libraries.  Such problems can often be resolved by simply by determining the language to which the libraries relate to and selecting the appropriate compiler as the linker (macro LINK in file sia_setup.h).  Searching for the libraries and specifying their names and paths in sia_setup.h may be another solution.

Some tools occasionally print debugging messages in profusion

Because I do not maintain a rigorous "release" hierarchy and am working on various tools all the time, some tools may be posted in experimental and development form. The idea is that once the tool is finalized and the software updated, the messages will go away.

Distribution hierarchy is not completely implemented

In principle, we have a concept of custom "distributions" containing the packages and codes of interest to the particular installation site. This logic is still somewhat confused, and I recommend using the distribution named 'full', which contains all the codes available in the main repository.
