Model-based inversion
Model-based inversion is an approach to inversion that avoids the problems of recursive inversion by iteratively changing a model to give a least-squares fit to the seismic data (Russell and Hampson, 1991).
As with recursive inversion, this involves both the building of an initial model and the estimation of a wavelet.
The figure on the next page illustrates the basic idea.
